Dating Scams

Like every other area of life the dating scene also has its fair share of scammers. Most are pretty obvious but many are harder to figure.

Don't be disheartened by this or think everyone you might contact is a scammer, this is simply a guide to make sure you don't get stung by criminals.

Now, I'm not dealing here with dubious people who meet and use up all your money or marry and divorce you in a week. I'm describing individuals or gangs that operate over the net creating fictitious entries to lure you in. The scam also only really works if the person is in another country or many miles away.

The most obvious scammers will post up a picture taken straight off the internet - a very glamourous shot that looks far too professional. They will write up a very short description and their preferences will be wide. e.g Looking for someone between 18 and 80.

So what's the scam? The scam, as most, is normally to make you part with your hard earned cash. This will normally be requested for plane tickets so they can come and see you. Of course, they're not getting on any plane, well certainly not one to see you. They may also run off loads of sad tales about how they have ill relatives or can't pay the bills etc. They probably won't ask you for the money directly, but just push the right buttons so you end up offering it.

Be careful out there!
